Practice Information

Charese specializes in representing private and public employees in employment law,
discrimination, civil rights and labor law matters. Since 1995, Charese has advised and
represented public and private employees on wide range of workplace issues related to equal
protection, due process, federal and state discrimination and civil rights discrimination laws. She
successfully represented private and public employees in state and federal courts, and has helped
employees successfully reach settlements through alternative dispute resolution.

Prior to joining McKanna Bishop Joffe, Charese had her own firm for 15 years, and prior to that
worked for plaintiff/employee-side firms solely representing employees. She has been a
recognized leader in employment law matters in Oregon and has been involved in several high
profile matters.

Charese received the Oregon Trial Lawyers Association – Arthur H. Bryan Public Justice Award in
2019 jointly along with co-recipients Dana Sullivan, Ashley Vaughn and Whitney Stark for their
collective work on behalf of nearly a dozen sexual harassment survivors who banded together
against the Oregon Legislature. The collective action resulted in public policy changes in handling
harassment and discrimination charges. On behalf of her clients, the two legal interns who were
victims of sexual harassment by an Oregon State Senator, Charese filed the only lawsuit involved
before all matters were collectively resolved.
